Training file / Recognition of prior learning
RPL with CAQA, kept apart from visas.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) turns skills you already have into an Australian qualification, without repeating training you do not need. In the CAQA group it is assessed by CAQA RTO 45459, a registered training organisation, and only for qualifications on its scope of registration.

What RPL is
RPL is an assessment of what you can already do, measured against the units of competency in a nationally recognised qualification. If your evidence shows you meet a unit, you are not trained in it again. If gaps remain, you can complete those units through training.
The result is either the full qualification or a statement of attainment for the units achieved, issued by the registered training organisation and recorded against your Unique Student Identifier (USI).
Evidence that usually helps
- A detailed resume and position descriptions.
- Reference letters from employers describing your duties and dates.
- Samples of your work, such as reports, plans or project documents.
- Earlier qualifications and transcripts, translated where needed.
- A conversation or practical demonstration with the assessor.

Five steps, no shortcuts promised.
How long RPL takes depends on your evidence and the qualification. We do not quote completion times in advance.
- 01
Eligibility call
A short call about your work history and the qualification you are interested in. A training question only; no visa advice is given. No fee for the call.
- 02
Written quote and enrolment information
Before you enrol you receive the qualification details, the assessment process, the fee in writing, the refund policy and your rights as a learner.Nothing is paid before you agree in writing.
- 03
Evidence portfolio
You gather evidence against each unit, with guidance on what the assessor needs to see.
- 04
Assessment
A qualified assessor reviews the evidence and may ask questions or observe practical tasks. Gaps are explained, with the training needed to close them.
- 05
Result
A qualification or statement of attainment for the units achieved. The outcome depends on the evidence; it is never promised.
